Bugs for a boost

Fancy swapping out beef in your diet for a grasshopper or a worm?

New research from the American Chemical Society’s Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry shows eating insects may fill the dietary need for iron and other nutrients.


The researchers analysed grasshoppers, crickets, mealworms and buffalo worms for their mineral contents and found minerals including calcium, copper and zinc, plus iron, from grasshoppers, crickets and mealworms are more readily available for absorption than the same minerals from beef.
